What to Expect at Your First Benefit

Congratulations!  Daddy has invited you to your first benefit. Here are some tips on navigating the high-society scene like a pro.

WHAT IS A BENEFIT?

Simply put, a benefit is a large, formal dinner party held to raise funds for charitable organizations. A table at one of these functions can cost $10,000 or more so if you are invited to attend it’s best that you arrive knowing how to behave at such an event.

The evening typically kicks off with cocktails and light appetizers before moving into a sit-down dinner, which often features keynote speakers or light entertainment, then finishes with dessert. Throughout the evening a silent auction may also be going on. If you aren’t familiar with how silent auctions work it’s a good idea to research the basics ahead of time.

BEFORE THE EVENT: DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Ask your Sugar Daddy for a copy of the invitation and use the information provided to decide what type of attire is appropriate for the occasion.  If you aren’t able to get a copy of the invitation then do some research on the venue and the organization, chances are you will be able to get the information you need to dress for the occasion.

Keep in mind that different regions have different standards for dress codes. A New York City benefit that requires business attire will likely call for a jacket, a nice sheath dress, pantyhose and pumps.  While a benefit in California with the same dress code will be slightly more casual, you probably won’t see any women in pantyhose. Benefit attendees tends to be pretty conservative, so it’s a good idea to leave any skin-tight, revealing dresses at home.

THE PEOPLE YOU’LL MEET

A benefit can be an amazing opportunity to meet the movers and shakers in your community.  Exactly who you’ll meet depends on two factors: the people Daddy already knows and how willing both of you are to step outside your comfort zone.  Have business cards on hand just in case you meet a potential mentor or promising contact.  Also keep in mind that you’re here as Daddy’s date: this is not the time or place for aggressive networking (or freestyling!).  When in doubt, follow Daddy’s lead.

HAVE FUN

Don’t worry if you’re feeling nervous about the event—it’s meant to be fun!  Take comfort in the fact that Daddy invited you because he is proud to have you by his side. He knows you’ll be able to handle yourself and act with grace.

Good luck and happy sugaring!
