How To Beat The Winter Blues

It’s no secret that January can be a rough month. After the glow of the holiday season has burnt out, it seems like all that’s left is cold weather—and that’s no fun. However, one of many perks of being an SB is the ability to transcend winter dreariness—whether by getting away, keeping things steamy indoors, or working on self-improvement. Here are a few recommendations on how to beat the winter blues.

GET AWAY

Find an excuse—any excuse—to travel with your SD. Weekend getaways to places like St Bart’s are wonderfully luxe and full of other potential SDs. If things go south with your date, it wouldn’t hurt to be on the lookout for POTs. Also, warm places like Miami, Hawaii, and Vegas have lots of conventions in January, so see if you can tag along on your SD’s next business trip.  

And if you don’t have an SD to take you away, no sweat. See if you can arrange a girls’ trip with other Sugar Sisters. Pick a week or weekend when you know a convention will be in town, split hotel costs, then freestyle to your heart’s content. And if free-styling doesn’t work, at least you can party with all your Sugar Sisters. This could be especially fun in Vegas!

HAVE A STAYCATION

What if the holidays left you feeling more than a little broke? Again, no sweat—you can still have fun indoors. A surefire way to keep things steamy is to have a date night in with your SD—you can cook a meal or have takeout, then watch a movie or simply hang out together.  

But if you’re looking for time to yourself, sometimes there’s nothing better than having a day where you make a hot cup of tea and curl up with a good book. Or a night where you pour yourself a glass of wine and settle in with your favorite sugar movie.

Or a night where you listen to music while you paint your nails or take a bubble bath may help. The possibilities are endless, but what matters most is that you come out of the staycation feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world—sugar, vanilla, or both!

GET MOVING

A great, practical way to keep your spirits up is by staying active the old-fashioned way: working out. Sure, it’s a pain having to trek through less-than-ideal weather to get to the gym, but you’ll thank yourself at the end of the day. The endorphins will be flowing and you’ll be getting a head start on the summer body of your dreams.  

But if going from couch potato mode to gym rat mode is a really big ask for you, start with something small, like hitting a daily steps goal. Studies have shown that even something as simple as walking can do wonders in keeping your health up.  

A great way to complement your new active routine is by eating a healthy diet.  It sounds almost too simple to be true, but there really is no better way to keep your spirits up in the long term than to eat healthy and be active.  Eating sugary foods and lounging around feels great in the short term, but can lead to ennui if you let those special treats become habits.
