Winter Skincare Tips

As we’re transitioning into colder seasons it’s essential that we begin to prepare our skin for the drier, colder and harsher weather. Since winter is coming, I’m going to tell you all about natural products to keep your face and body looking it’s best all year round. Here are my best winter skincare tips.

Keeping Your Body Glowing

As we age our skin and joints go through a lot of changes. Our collagen production slows, our joints begin to wear down, our skin cell turnover slows, the effects of sun exposure begin to become more prevalent, our skin loses its tightness and resiliency and a whole slew of other unexpected surprises begin to pop up. Here are some natural ways to combat the above.

Collagen Types I, II and III

Collagen types I and III are found in the skin, tendons, ligaments and bones while type II is mostly found in connective tissues and joint cartilage. Supplements containing type I and III collagen are derived from bovine (cow) while type II is derived from chicken. Taking the three collagen types daily can improve skin texture, increase natural collagen production, increase skin cell turnover, help to lubricate bones, decrease the appearance of cellulite, decrease and prevent the appearance of wrinkles, heal injuries faster, help to fade stretch marks due to increased skin cell turnover, assist in lessening the effects of arthritis, assist your body in retaining hyaluronic acid to keep skin moisturized, will make hair and nails healthier and many other benefits. To maximize benefits take 1 – 2 tablespoons of hydrolyzed collagen types I and III powder, and 500mg of collagen type II supplements daily.

Certain oils such as grapeseed oil, sunflower seed oil, olive oil, vitamin e oil and coconut oil offer hydration, increases skin cell turnover, improved circulation (needed for decreasing the appearance of cellulite as well as for fighting against spider and varicose veins) and protection against free radicals. Consider adding them to your daily body beauty routine. Apply these oils by mixing with lotions, or simply as is.

Your Face Deserves The Best

As the seasons change the skin on our face tends to be the most visibly affected. Consider taking beauty supplements such as fish oil, biotin, vitamin A, collagen, gelatin, hyaluronic acid, hair skin and nails combination type of vitamins and multivitamins to ensure you’re nourishing your skin from the inside out. Winters are particularly harsh on your face, so now is a good time to start a regimen.

Skin Tip: My favorite mask to make for myself at home consists of activated charcoal, bentonite clay and water. It fights against blackheads and leaves your skin feeling smooth and calm. Be sure to moisturize afterwards with either grapeseed oil, olive oil or vitamin e oil – avoid coconut oil on your face as it tends to strip your face of its natural oils.

Lip Tip: Make a gentle lip scrub to plump and moisturize lips by combining sugar, diluted cinnamon essential oil and a little olive oil.

Stay Hydrated

Most importantly make sure you are drinking enough water daily. Not only will proper hydration assist in keeping your skin glowing and beautiful but it will also help to fight against bloating, overeating fatigue, eye bags and wrinkles.
